LOCAL AREA

The villa is just 10 minutes walk from the centre of Cessenon, where there are restaurants, bars and shops. Cessenon is a lively town with a market 2 days a week. There are many lovely walks in the area including part of a GR route. Cycling routes are well signed. Canoeing on the River Orb is available nearby. The historic town of Beziers is 30 minutes away by car. Other places of interest are the Canal du Midi, Carcassonne and Narbonne.

Cessenon-sur-Orb

A charming small town nestled in a bend of the Orb, it dates back to medieval times. The region is famous for its excellent wine, and this section of the Orb is known for its canoeing and kayaking.

Narbonne

Once a prosperous port, and a major city in Roman times, it is now located about 15 km from the shores of the Mediterranean. Famous for the Gothic Cathédrale Saint-Just et Saint-Pasteur, which was begun in the 13th century but never completed.

Carcassonne Medieval Castle

The city is famous for the Cité de Carcassonne, a medieval fortress restored by the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc in 1853 and added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1997

Béziers Cathedral

The cathedral dates from the thirteenth century, and commands fine views over the surrounding countryside.
